ENERGY AUDITOR – Full-time - Weatherization

Full job description

This position is responsible for learning to perform or performing energy audits in order to ensure that quality weatherization work is performed on all eligible clients’ homes to make their homes more comfortable and energy efficient following the Weatherization Program Manual, The Wisconsin Weatherization Field Guide and The Weatherization Assistant Guide.

Detailed Job Responsibilities:

  • Trainees will begin by learning to or work alongside Weatherization Crew members to observe and learn insulation activities for a limited time.
  • Work with the Warehouse Manager to perform monthly inventory checks on company van and tools.
  • Conduct energy audits on all building types and document field data on the Field Data Collection Form and other applicable required forms and tools
  • Take all required pictures of the building/house and of the items to be replaced and the general condition of dwelling according to the Weatherization Program and La Casa requirements.
  • Perform heating system testing.
  • Determine the age and condition of the existing heating system unit.
  • Evaluate the existing distribution system, performance testing of the distribution system, and the impacts on the building of a forced-air distribution system.
  • Properly inspect water heating systems, determine age, condition, acceptable draft levels, and to forecast acceptable draft conditions by end-state planning.
  • Measure Combustion Appliance Zone (CAZ) pressures and record results.
  • Perform worst-case draft testing
  • Complete Zone Pressure Diagnostic (ZPD) testing

Job Description –

Energy Auditor

  • Inspect the entire dwelling for the presence of gas leaks and document the location(s).
  • Test gas ovens for carbon monoxide levels
  • Perform a health and safety inspection while conducting an energy audit in the field
  • Inspect electrical system for proper service, condition of wiring, and to identify Knob and Tube wiring
  • Properly enter data and complete the National Energy Audit Tool (NEAT) audit
  • Inspect all building components for access and existing insulation levels
  • Complete the Diagnostic Workbook and related required energy audit tools as required
  • Perform blower door tests and other diagnostic testing as needed
  • Inspect wall for insulation. Note condition of siding and sealing
  • Maintain daily monitoring/interaction with sub-contractors and in-house crews on on-going jobs
  • Inspect basement for box sill and/or crawlspace insulation and air sealing opportunities
  • Inspect appliances for condition, age, and record serial and model numbers
  • Inspect and measure existing exhaust fan flow or identify the need to install them based on ASHRAE 62.2 and the Weatherization Program Manual.
  • Inspect existing exhaust fans and verify they’re vented to the exterior or vented to the exterior properly.
  • Inspect windows and doors, note the condition, and measure if considering replacement
  • Inspect clothes dryer for venting needs and safe operation
  • Complete all required paperwork to complete the energy audit
  • Complete compliance check list and transfer job file to the Energy Audit Manager
  • Complete customer communication and follow up according to the La Casa Weatherization Program Customer Service Policy
  • Complete entering job information in the HE+ system according to the Weatherization Program

Manual and La Casa processes

  • Train Energy Auditor trainees
  • Assist the Quality Assurance Department when needed, following Weatherization Program standards, which includes:
  • Complete callback inspections, complaints, and miscellaneous job concerns following Weatherization Program standards.
  • Complete final inspections on 1 to 24+ unit buildings.
  • Perform site visits on “In-Progress” jobs to assist contractors and internal staff as needed
  • Other duties as assigned or needed

COMPETENCIES

Job Skills Requirements:

  • Weatherization experience
  • Knowledge of homes construction process a plus
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Software Programs
  • Good time management skills and ability to be flexible, be able to meet deadlines for production objectives
  • Ability to work independently outside the office and meet production goals
  • Demonstrated team player and ability to interact professionally with a variety of personnel in a busy production environment
  • Must exhibit strong attention to detail, safety consciousness and a willingness to learn
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Able to speak and understand English
  • Education Requirements:
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience required.

Desired Characteristics:

  • HVAC experience a plus
  • Energy auditing experience a plus Environmental Requirements:
  • Must be able to work in fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds several times daily
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time daily
  • Able to work in extreme conditions, such as, but not limited to, temperatures, working in confined spaces, wearing full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), cluttered houses, houses with severe odors, and difficult customer interactions. These conditions vary as work activity requirements dictate.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.75 – $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 30 per week
