La Casa de Esperanza is seeking energetic, reliable leaders to guide teams of volunteers in providing free tax preparation services to low income individuals and families in Waukesha County. La Casa’s VITA site has been in existence for 14 years and in 2010 received the IRS’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Quality. In 2019, La Casa’s VITA sites served over 1,800 families in Wisconsin.
This program is an excellent opportunity to gain certifications to prepare taxes, employ and build supervisory and leadership skills, add credentials and valuable experience to your resume, and have a major impact on helping the community.
Duties:
Assist in supervising our VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Site.
- Adhere to and communicate program policies and procedures to volunteers
- Ensure sufficient tax forms and supplies and reference materials are available and properly used by volunteers;
- Ensure that the site opens as scheduled and is adequately staffed;
- Monitor customers traffic volume and oversee triage process
- Provide customers with program and tax information
- Provide technical assistance to volunteer tax preparers
- Ensure volunteers meet quality review requirements and help as needed
- Maintain required files
- Complete data tracking and prepare required reports
- Support volunteers
- Prepare taxes as needed
- Perform program outreach/marketing activities
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational skills
- Computer literate (including Microsoft Office)
- Detail-oriented
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently
- Previous tax or accounting experience/education preferred
- Bi-lingual Spanish preferred
Some local travel within Waukesha County
You will be expected to attain Advanced VITA tax preparer certification. Comprehensive training will be provided.
