About Our Charter School

Established in 2015, La Casa de Esperanza’s Charter School is the first independent charter school in Waukesha County. We are a full-service school, featuring an extended school day, rigorous curriculum, English language instruction, year-round programming, character education, family involvement, and community partnerships.

Small class sizes and uniforms contribute to our caring, safe, and secure learning environment. The La Casa Charter School has a team of extraordinary teachers and administrators who create and maintain a culture of high expectations and are continually seeking out best practices for student achievement.

Beyond academic development, our program includes physical education and social considerations. The Charter School recognizes that no education program can be effective without a foundation of basic physical and emotional wellness. We believe that teaching good nutrition, health, and wellness matters, which is why all of our students receive breakfast, lunch, and snacks.

At La Casa de Esperanza’s Charter School, the importance of character is also taught daily. Showing respect for and interacting with students of different backgrounds, ethnicities, and nationalities prepares our students to be successful in their future schools, careers, and communities.

FAQS

What is a charter school ?

La Casa de Esperanza Charter School is a welcoming, tuition-free public school dedicated to serving all Wisconsin students. We are open to every child, regardless of background, culture, or beliefs, and we proudly reflect the diversity of our local community.

Most of our students come from the surrounding neighborhood and the greater Waukesha County area, creating a vibrant learning environment where children grow together. If more students apply than there are seats available, enrollment is determined through a fair and transparent lottery process, ensuring equal opportunity for every family.

As a free public school, our charter school is non-sectarian and non-discriminatory in all of its practices. We accept all Wisconsin students who wish to enroll. The majority of our students come from the surrounding neighborhood and the greater Waukesha County area. If more students apply than there are seats available, the school will hold a lottery to randomly determine enrollment.

Our charter school fosters a culture of high expectations where every student is encouraged and supported to reach their full potential. Uniforms and small class sizes help create a safe and welcoming environment, allowing each child to receive personalized attention.

Our dedicated team of extraordinary teachers and administrators is committed to providing both academic excellence and character development. We continually seek the best practices in education so that students experience rigorous academics while building strong values that will guide them in life.

Most importantly, we are proud to offer the only Dual Language program in Waukesha County preparing students to succeed in an increasingly diverse and bilingual world.

Dual language is an educational program where students are taught in two languages—in this case, English and Spanish. This specific program is designed for students to become fluent and literate in both languages by 5th grade. This approach not only helps students communicate in two languages but also enhances cognitive skills, cultural understanding, and academic achievement. We take pride in being the only “Charter School “providing this program opportunity to students in the Waukesha County area.

Our charter school is before-and-after school that mobilizes resources inside and outside the school’s four walls. This means we provide additional support for the academic and social needs of our students and their families. Additional support includes assistance from several of our other successful sectors: Weatherization, Early Childhood Education, the Center for Financial Stability, and La Casa Villages I and II. Specifically, we offer before- and after-school programs, summer enrichment for all students, health and wellness education, financial literacy classes, and job training.

At La Casa de Esperanza Charter School, parents are not just participants in their child’s education—they are vital partners in it. We believe that when schools and families work together, students are more likely to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. That’s why we actively foster strong, two-way communication and encourage parent involvement at every level.

Parents are seen as respected stakeholders whose voices and experiences help guide school decisions and shape a supportive, culturally responsive environment. Whether it’s attending conferences, volunteering in the classroom, joining school events, or participating in family workshops, parents play a key role in building a positive school culture.

La Casa also supports parents through a variety of services—like financial literacy classes, health education, and job training—recognizing that empowering families strengthens student outcomes. By working in partnership with parents, we create a strong foundation that helps children thrive both in school and in life.

Charter schools like La Casa de Esperanza receive less funding per student than traditional public schools in the district. As more students enroll, our costs increase; however, the funding we receive doesn’t always rise at the same pace. In addition, charter schools do not receive separate funding for facilities, which means we must cover building maintenance, improvements, and expansions ourselves. Our full-service model—which includes before- and after-school programs, summer enrichment, and family support services—also requires additional resources. Fundraising helps cover uniforms, technology, STEM, special education, Project Lead the Way, and more. To continue offering a high-quality, well-rounded education, we rely on fundraising to help bridge the gap and ensure that our students receive the support they need to succeed.

The goals for our Charter school include:

  • Achieving a 95% daily student attendance rat

  • Our goal is to provide families with clear and transparent performance standards based on standardized testing results. We will publish outcomes from the MAP Test, the Forward Exam, and high school placement data in the FAQ section so that our community can better understand student achievement and growth
