Volunteer Opportunities

Tutors

La Casa needs dependable volunteers to work as tutors for our after-school programs, serving children and youth ages 5-18 years. Duties include homework assistance and tutoring in specific subjects. English-speaking or Spanish-speaking individuals are welcome. Volunteers are needed from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. to help with homework assignments or tutoring on a subject (math, English, etc.). Great for retired teachers!

Special Events Volunteers

La Casa hosts six major events each year. These include:

Three Kings Celebration

Date of Event: Saturday, January 5, 2008
Time: 10 a.m. to noon
Place: La Casa Community Center

Volunteers needed: Wednesday, Dec. 26th through Saturday, Jan. 5th

During the Three Kings Celebration, La Casa distributes over 1,000 gifts to low-income children and families. This event is sponsored by Mayfair Mall, area congregations and many generous schools, businesses and individuals in our community. We need volunteers to assist with sorting gifts, matching gifts to recipients and wrapping of gifts prior to the event, and helping with registration/refreshments during the event.

La Casa's Anniversary Celebration & Annual Dinner

Date of Event: Friday, February 22, 2008
Time: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Place: La Casa Community Center
Volunteers needed: Now through Friday, Feb. 22nd

La Casa's Anniversary Celebration is our biggest fundraiser of the year. On Friday, February 22, 2008, we will celebrate our 42nd anniversary with over 400 business people, government officials and community members in attendance. We need volunteers to assist with multiple mailings (fall 2007), soliciting items for the silent auction (fall 2007), organizing the silent auction, waiting tables, room setup and clean up.

Cinco de Mayo Celebration

Date of event: Monday, May 5, 2008
Time: (two performances) 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.; noon to 2 p.m.
Place: La Casa's Community Center
Volunteers needed: Sunday & Monday, May 4th & 5th

This is a daytime event for students and adults in our community. Volunteer opportunities for this event include room set up, food service, busing tables and event clean up.

Fiesta Waukesha

Date of event: Friday, June 20 through Sunday, June 22, 2008
Time: 4 p.m.-10 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday & Sunday
Place: Frame Park, Waukesha
Volunteers needed: Monday, June 16th through Monday, June 23rd

Fiesta Waukesha is a three-day celebration of the Hispanic culture. In 2008, La Casa will be hosting its 26th annual Fiesta Waukesha in beautiful Frame Park. We depend on over 100 volunteers to make this event a success. If you are interested in volunteering, you will have a GREAT time! Volunteers are needed to set up the grounds, help distribute literature, sell raffle tickets, serve soda and beer, assist with parking, grounds clean up and more.

"Investing in Our Youth" Annual Golf Outing

Date of event: Wednesday, September 14, 2008
Time: 11 a.m.- 8 p.m.
Place: Western Lakes Golf Club
Volunteers needed: Wednesday, Sept. 14

La Casa will host its 14th annual "Investing in Our Youth" golf outing at Western Lakes Golf Club on Sept. 14. The money generated from this yearly event directly supports La Casa's Youth Program. Volunteers are needed for set up, selling raffle tickets, handing out prizes, clean up and other general duties.

El Dia de los Muertos

La Casa de Esperanza is proud to offer a traditional Mexican Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) event to celebrate the lives of those who have gone before us. Volunteers are needed to help set up tables, serve food and clean up.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Copy/Mailing volunteers

Help with bulk mailings (making copies, folding, stuffing envelopes and preparing them for mailing).

End-of-Year fundraising appeal

Help La Casa staffers by calling donors and potential donors to solicit funds for La Casa's programs and services. Volunteers are needed in December 2008.

Do you have a skill or an interest that you are willing to share? We have many diverse programs that can utilize your skills and interests. Whether you are interested in reading to our preschool children, working with our seniors or performing clerical duties, we need you and greatly appreciate your desire to help those in needs in our community.
