Carmen de la Paz – Public Relations

Carmen moved to Waukesha in 1967 after receiving her degree from the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Carmen began her career at La Casa in 1971 as a teacher’s aide in La Escuelita. Later, Carmen was promoted to Lead Teacher and then to Parent Coordinator.

In 1981, Carmen became the La Escuelita Coordinator. Carmen has also held numerous positions throughout La Casa specifically as the founder of the Early Childhood Intervention Program of La Casa, Housing Specialist at La Casa Village and managed numerous special events and public relations initiatives. 

Carmen is very active in the Waukesha community serving on numerous boards. Specifically, Carmen has served as a Board member with the YWCA of Waukesha, the Salvation Army and Girl Scouts. Carmen was also a member of the Rotary Club, the Advisory Education Committee for Early Childhood Education for the State of Wisconsin, the Advisory Committee for Second Harvest and was a coordinator with her husband for Spanish Marriage Encounters with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. 

Carmen has also been recognized for her dedication to the community. She was a recipient of the Women of Distinction Award in 1985 and Women of the Year for the Milwaukee Spanish Journal. 

Carmen is celebrating 40 years at La Casa in November of 2011. When she is not working at La Casa’s reception desk, she enjoys traveling, visiting her family and continuing to stay active in the community.
