TITLE: Cook

DEPARTMENT: Café Esperanza

BASIC FUNCTIONS: To prepare and cook main courses, side dishes and dessert to the highest quality. This position also prepares all meals and snacks for the educational programs in accordance with DPI and State of Wisconsin requirements.

REPORTS TO: Café Manager

FLSA: Non-Exempt

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Café Esperanza is typically only open for lunch, and this position is responsible for the preparation and

cooking of all main courses, side dishes and desserts for the lunch service. The Cook also prepares all

meals and snacks for the educational programs of La Casa de Esperanza, and assists with food preparation

for special events that are held throughout the year. This position ensures that all meals are of the highest

quality and are in accordance with recipe guidelines and specifications.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare all menu items in accordance with recipe guidelines and specifications

Prepares all ingredients needed for meal service

Prepare all meals and snacks for the childcare and Charter School programs according to the guidelines and specifications of DPI and the State of Wisconsin.

Complies with safety guidelines when handling kitchen equipment and utensils.

Follows all portion and quality standards.

Maintains and stocks designated station, freezers, refrigerators and store room with food products daily; follows proper rotation system and notifies chef of any discrepancies or shortages.

Labels and dates all food products in storage and refrigeration areas appropriately.

Ensures all products are stored or disposed of properly at the end of the night.

Cleans food preparation equipment and work areas according to health and safety guidelines; cleans counter or tables.

Adheres to all restaurant policies and procedures paying special attention to health and/or safety requirements; communicates any concerns to management.

Communicates with servers in a professional manner regarding customer service.

Performs all closing duties of the kitchen daily as determined by chef.

Conduct other duties as requested by supervisor or CEO

JOB SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

At least 2 years of experience as a cook or chef in a fast paced environment

Ability to establish and maintain an effective relationship with all department management, staff, personnel and the general public.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or GED preferred

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:

Bilingual in English/Spanish strongly preferred.

The employee will have unsupervised access to children due to the proximity of the Child Care area.
